a homo sapiens examines inner landscape
at midnight

BY ELŻBIETA CICHLA-CZARNIAWSKA

where are you grass

where are you morning dew

where are you pulsating life?

in a quasi-dream

cruel though a bit grotesque

on a bulging shroud rolls

the severed head of the moon

the place where I am

could be anywhere:

ahead of me and behind me

to the left and to the right

deep below and high above

around

a volcanic landscape –

as far as the faintly visible horizon

an endless basalt plain

breathlessness

fear churns bowels

urine feces sweat harden inside me

blood barely circulates

the embittered silent world

got stuck in a task with no end

deprived of the presence of another person

I remember:

just yesterday

footprints were here

of someone's feet but probably

the mission ended

for those pursuing a common goal

the severed head of the moon

rolls closer

it hangs like a sentence

above my head

its dead eyes staring

if only I didn't want so much

to lick off the last drop of dew

from the grass that no longer exists

from a tiny leaf of life now gone

if I didn't want to give my weary body

for safekeeping

to the earth once fertile

once fragrant after the rain

I would mock myself

in this cruel quasi-dream at midnight

everything is hell

immobilized

in my inner space

the whole past present and future

I don't know

if I was eagerly awaited

if I am condemned

if I will be saved

faint reflections of light from a satellite

flicker on the basalt rocks

on the hardened magma of my conscience

I am standing stripped of the influence

over my fate and the fate of others

I am standing paralyzed with fear

deprived of the ability

of making one sensible gesture

I would mock myself

but curious I ask:

why in the beginning

was I told to inscribe my name

in the alluring book of utopia

can it be that I am shining

with reflected light only?

homo ogląda o północy
swój pejzaż wewnętrzny

BY ELŻBIETA CICHLA-CZARNIAWSKA

gdzie jesteś trawo

gdzie jesteś roso

gdzie jesteś pulsujące życie?

w niby-śnie

okrutnym choć nieco groteskowym

toczy się po wzdętym całunie

ścięta głowa księżyca

punkt w jakim się znajduję

mógłby być wszędzie:

przede mną i za mną

na prawo i na lewo

w głębi i na wysokościach

wokół

pejzaż wulkaniczny –

aż po słabo widoczny horyzont

płaski monolit bazaltu

duszność

lęk trawi trzewia

mocz kał pot zastyga we mnie

krew ledwie krąży

w nierozwiązywalnym zadaniu

ugrzązł milczący zgorzały świat

pozbawiony obecności drugiego człowieka

pamiętam:

jeszcze wczoraj

były tutaj odciśnięte ślady

czyichś stóp lecz prawdopodobnie

skończyła się misja

podążających do wspólnego celu

ścięta głowa księżyca

przyturlała się

nad moją głowę

wisi jak wyrok

łypie martwymi oczyma

gdybym tak bardzo nie pragnął

zlizać ostatniej kropli rosy

z nieistniejącej już trawy

z zaduszonego listka życia

gdybym nie chciał oddać znużonego ciała

na przechowanie

parującej niegdyś po deszczu

żyznej ziemi

drwiłbym z siebie

w okrutnym niby-śnie o północy

wszystko jest piekłem

unieruchomionym

w mojej przestrzeni wewnętrznej

cała przeszłość teraźniejszość i przyszłość

nie wiem

czy bardzo byłem oczekiwany

czy jestem potępiony

czy będę zbawiony

nikłe refleksy światła satelity

pełgają po bazaltach

po zastygłej magmie mojego sumienia

stoję wyzbyty łaski wpływu

na własny i cudzy los

stoję sparaliżowany trwogą

pozbawiony zdolności

wykonania sensownego gestu

kpiłbym z siebie

jednak pytam dociekliwie:

dlaczego u początku

ktoś kazał mi się wpisać

do wabiącej księgi utopii

czyżbym też świecił

jedynie odbitym blaskiem?
